A pair of 19c carved giltwood console tables with original marble tops.
The restoration involved carving missing ribbon entwined garlands, centre cameo and tied bows out of limewood. Any flaking gesso was removed or stabilised and new layers reapplied, cut and smoothed. Only the areas of restoration required regilding and ageing.

Mahogany and parcel-gilt mirror c. 1740.
The swan neck cresting and decorative woven basket of flowers and seed pods required complete restoration. These were carved from limewood, regilded and distressed.

A Holland & Son walnut table c. 1850.
The gilt spitting serpent which twists around the spiral pedestal base had approximately 80% of its scales missing. These were replaced by applying new gesso, cutting back and smoothing each scale by hand before regilding; a replacement ebonised tongue was also made.

Scandinavian carved giltwood mirror c. 1800.
Restoration included replacing missing sections of wooden fretwork and ribbon tied husks. New carving was regilded and aged to match original.

Mid 19c carton pierre gilt cherubs.
Initially the cherub’s head was secured in position
and acanthus leaves moulded around the wire supports.
A bow was constructed on the top of the central wreath
and then attached between the two cherubs, trailing
ribbons could then be cast and positioned in the outstretched
hands. All repairs were gilded and distressed.

19c gilt composition picture frame.
Broken and damaged corner pieces were repositioned and
missing sections remoulded by hand or cast from existing
profiles. Original gilding was lightly cleaned, and
the newly gilded areas were coloured and distressed
to match.

A pair 19c continental gilt wood chairs.
Layers of household paint were removed by dry stripping
and chemical swabs to reveal the original gilding. Damaged
areas were restored and the gilding distressed to match.

Late 19c Chinese red lacquer table.
The missing raised areas were gessoed, gilded and painted,
and the red ground that had flaked was replaced, coloured
and lacquered to match the original surface.

Mid 19c black papier mâché
tray with gilded country landscape.
The missing corner and damaged sides were remoulded
using a papier mâché preparation.
The new section was then painted, the pattern
copied, gilded and distressed to match the original.

A pair of 20c carved wooden dogs.
Layers of black paint were removed to reveal
the extent of damage. The lamenated wood was
treated, and splits filled with slivers of wood
to prevent further decay. Having totally smoothed
the surface, paint was applied to return the
dogs to their original state
